The background basemap is built from OpenStreetMap data. © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL).

Reference datasets

Maps identify any copied reference feature by its dataset and licence in the map's attribution control. The project has selected these datasets for future reference layers; they are not all currently displayed in the app.

  • Overture Maps Places — Community Data License Agreement Permissive 2.0; some components use Apache 2.0 or CC0. Licence information.
  • geoBoundaries — CC BY 4.0. Source and licence.
  • Natural Earth — public domain. Source.
  • Overture base, buildings, transportation, and divisions — display-only OSM-derived data; never copied into user maps.

Map licences

Each map shows its own licence, including in GeoJSON exports. New maps default to CC BY 4.0. A map's licence applies to its contributed content, not to the basemap or separately attributed third-party datasets.
